I always appreciate a message in my guestbook or a comment to an article!
These are our pets, Karel and Poes. Karel is a female rabbit and Poes a female cat. The box is Poes' favorite place to sleep in near the heating on the couch. I thought it would be nice to photography her in the box so I did. I also took Karel out of her house and put her in the box too. I shot this with 3 flashes, one for the background and 2 for lighting the subject.
The one in the pan I shot for fun, I thought the it would be a controversial idea :-)
Some nice winterpictures in Wageningen.
Here are my first real night photography pictures with a shutter speed up to 3 minutes. I used for the first time my wired remote control for the bulb function!
Once a year there is "Vreeswijk at candelight". Vreeswijk is a district of Nieuwegein and has a long history, even till the 10th century. I don't exactly know why they have this event but it is very nice and beautiful for some "night photography".
From our balcony we can see the 367metres high christmastree. It is called the Gerbrandytoren and more information can be read here.
Last year I took pictures of the tower with lots of fireworks around it, so hopefully I will be able to do that again, and perhaps even better! See here the article with a picture of last year New Year's Eve.
Below you see again the largest christmas tree and the view from the other side of the balcony ;-)
A few months ago we went to Germany and passed the small town Margraten in the south of The Netherlands where there is a Netherlands American war cemetery. I thought this should be an interesting place to make some pictures...and it was indeed. I was astonished by the many graves....in total there are 8.301 soldiers burried there. I made the pictues in black and white because I thought it would fit the subject better. Below you can read some information from www.margraten.nl.
Here are a few pictures from the ones I made there.
The rest of the pictures I made at the cemetery can be seen here.
Click the "read more" button below to see more information about the cemetery.
This year I went fishing with some friends, and during the fishing I took some pictures. Two of them are posted in this article. When I noticed that there was a carp fishing photo contest I sent a picture in to join the contest...and I won the contest!
Hopefully there will be much more to come! See the picture below of the result.
i shot these 2 pictures in house. The first one is Karel, our houserabbit. She, yes a she, lives in a normal rabbit hutch. We made this small steps so she can go out of the hutch herself and more important, she can go in by herself. I placed a white paper background next to the hutch and placed my strobe in front of it and than waited on the floor. She was a bit scared but she finally dared to look out of the cage with all the new stuff around her house (the strobe & background).
The other one is a picture of our diningtable with some thistles on the foreground standing on it and our oldschool 60's Philips radio with a wooden statue of a deer on it. The paintings are handmade and are not really paintings of paint but made of some retro fabric. The white on top of the picture is a hanging lamp of Ikea, the Brasa.
From the flat I live in I got a nice view over the area, because I live on the 10th floor. During quite a lot of days I have a pretty nice sunset, except I never photograph it. So I tried to do it yesterday and see below the result.
The name of this wonderful baby is Tom and he was 2 months old when I took the pictures.
This photos were taken with only my external flash (Nissin Di866) mounted on my 7d.
I just got my new equipment, two Linkstar flashlights with a softbox and an umbrella. I made some pictures of Kirsten, lots of products and also from our rabbit, called Karel. See here the result:
During a nice "aftersummerday" i went to a small lake near Utrecht were it is allowed to fish. During the beautiful sunset I shot this fisherman while he was trying to get his prey to land.

The autumn of 2010 has begun. At the moment in the forrest are lots of mushrooms, (ie the "Vliegenzwam" and the "Braakrussula"). During the sunny days you can make beautiful pictures of these weird creations. I used my 17-40mm and 70-200mm for these pictures, mostly the 17-40. I tried to shoot from the lowest position possible to get a nice angle at the mushrooms. With a higher aperture you will get a nice DOF (depth of field) behind the mushroom like the pictures below:
In October 2009 we went to Lesbos, one of the largest Greek islands. One of the most famous traditional food of Greece is Calamari. Calamari is squid and before cooking the squid it is dried. Below you see one way to dry it.
The meat is firm and white with a mild, slightly sweet and almost nutty flavor. The squid ranges from one inch in size up to eighty feet, but the most common size for eating is less than twelve inches. Although the tentacles are edible, the body is the prime section of meat which can be stuffed whole, cut into flat pieces, or sliced crosswise into perfect rings.
Below you can read some more about the beautiful island Lesbos.
Ecuador Culture and the Ecuadorian People Contemporary Ecuadorian culture has distinct roots in its rich and multi-ethnic history. Ecuador's population is estimated to be 13,927,650, with a less than 1% annual growth rate.
The population is ethnically mixed: 65% mestizo (mixed indigenous - Caucasian), 25% Indigenous, 10% Caucasian, 7% African, and 3% Black.
Bartolome Island has 2 nice beaches, the one with the chararistic rock where you can snorkle, and on the other side of the island there is a beautiful beach where loads of whitetip reef sharks are swimming near the coast. You can walk into the water to see these beautiful animals and you can even make pictures of them very closely.
The Marine Iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus) is an iguana found only on the Galápagos Islands that has the ability, unique among modern lizards, to live and forage in the sea, making it a marine reptile. The Iguana can dive over 30 ft into the water. It has spread to all the islands in the archipelago, and is sometimes called the Galapagos Marine Iguana. It mainly lives on the rocky Galapagos shore, but can also be spotted in marshes and mangrove beaches.
Some people wait days or even weeks to see this spectacle of all those crossing wildebeest but we had the luck to see it all happen within 15 minutes that we arrived at the point where there were lots of wildebeest gathered. And when one is starting to cross the whole group is following...as you can see on the picture they were all crossing next to a fat crocodile who was at that moment to lazy to hunt.
In 2007, when I was in Africa with a good friend of mine we reached a point where we had seen most of the animals we could see there and were focusing more on seeing predators in action. In all the wildparks in Africa it isn't allowed to go into the parks during the night, and that's the best time to see predators in action. We tried a few cheetah's during the day but we only had one running real fast, but not catching anything. We also had seen many groups of lions, but they were all to lazy to hunt during the day. We found this lion staring at some zebra's, it was lying in the grass with it's head up, and every couple of minutes he moved a few metres forward. At one moment he decided that he was close enough to encounter the zebra's and started running. Because all the animals are used to the cars they don't bother them, that is why he is running that close to the car trying to catch some dinner. Too bad he ended up with only a cloud of dust...but I was happy with the footage!

During my trip at the Galapagos I was surprised to see this Short-Eared Owl from this close. It was hunting from the ground to catch birds who flew over.
The Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) is a species of typical owl (family Strigidae). Owls belonging to genus Asio are known as the eared owls, as they have tufts of feathers resembling mammalian ears. These "ear" tufts may or may not be visible. Asio flammeus will display its tufts when in a defensive pose. However, its very short tufts are usually not visible. The Short-eared Owl is found in open country and grasslands. The word flammeus is Latin for "flaming, or the color of fire"
This is Kirsten, my lovely girlfriend with a lot of patience
This picture is taken in Lage Vuursche 03-10-2010
I made this picture while we were waiting at the airport.
These pictures were taken in Lesbos, Greece in 2009.
During New Year's Eve I made this picture using a tripod and patience. The high "christmas tree' is the Gerbandytower, with it 367m height it is the biggest "christmas tree" in the world.
